West Side Traffic Calming Project

This project aims to increase pedestrian safety and provide physical updates that will calm the flow of traffic across the west side of campus, providing a safer environment for patients, staff and students. Several traffic calming measures occurring across several phases include:

  • At Wood and Fillmore there will be curb extensions. (Phase 1)

  • At Hermitage and Taylor there will be curb extensions and a raised crosswalk.  (Phase 2)

  • At Taylor and Wood there will be new traffic lights and a raised intersection. (Phase 3)

Phase I

Start Date: February 2, 2026

Duration: 7 Weeks

Anticipated Completion: Mid-March

During this phase, vehicular traffic on (not to) Wood Street will be restricted to southbound traffic, and only westbound traffic will be allowed on Fillmore Street. However, northbound traffic from Roosevelt Road to Grenshaw Street, will be open to allow access to the Wood Street Parking Structure.

For the first half of this phase, the sidewalk on the west side of Wood Street will be closed and a temporary crosswalk from the Wood Street Parking Structure to the east side of Wood Street will allow northbound pedestrian access to the Specialty Care Building and the hospital.

Then, during the second half of this phase, the sidewalk on the west side of Wood Street will be reopened and the sidewalk on the east side of Wood Street will be closed.
